Once a blockchain project is completely ready and deployed by its developers; it is called the mainnet. In layman’s terms, the mainnet in blockchain and crypto space refers to the completely developed blockchain protocol which can be utilized to send and receive crypto assets or any other type of information.

Investors are often advised to ensure that the blockchain system being used is a mainnet and not a testnet before using it to transfer money. Testnet is often the testing version of the blockchain system and might not be up to the mark to be used for critical tasks. Testnet is often used to test the use cases and troubleshoot them. Once the issues in the testnet are resolved, the blockchain is made available for general people to use which is called the mainnet.
