Central Processing Unit (CPU)

CPU or the Central Processing Unit is the brain of the computer which performs several processing and computational functions for the device. CPUs are vital for the functioning of computers. CPUs are popular in the crypto space as they form an integral part of the crypto mining setup. Initially, Bitcoin was expected to be mined using computers having standard CPUs.

Millions of hashes can be computed by CPUs in order to create a random block. CPUs come with the capability to solve arithmetic functions in a very small span of time, which allows for crypto mining. CPU mining is quite profitable for low-intensity blockchain networks and one such example of a blockchain network is Monero. However, there is a requirement for more robust systems for larger blockchain systems like Bitcoin. Blockchain networks like Bitcoin require GPUs or ASICs.
