Crypto assets just like traditional assets can be divided into smaller units. The smallest unit of Bitcoin, the first and the largest crypto asset by market cap is called Satoshi or SATS. 1 SAT is equal to 0.00000001 BTC.
This is similar to how the Indian rupee can be divided into paise and the US dollar can be divided into cents. The unit, Satoshi, takes its name from Bitcoin’s founder, Satoshi Nakamoto. Although the first proposal was to call the one-hundredth part of Bitcoin Satoshi, the crypto community eventually settled on the one-hundred millionth part of the Bitcoin to be known as Satoshi. Smaller fractions of crypto assets come in handy while paying the transaction fees or completing micropayments.
