As Q3 2026 progresses, capital rotation is accelerating across Layer-1 ecosystems, AI-agent infrastructure, exchange-linked chains, and memecoin platforms with real revenue mechanics.
This blog highlights the top undervalued altcoins for September 2026: projects where fundamentals, network activity, or infrastructure importance appear stronger than current market pricing suggests.
| Token | Core Theme | Why It Could Be Undervalued |
|---|---|---|
| Ethereum (ETH) | Smart-contract settlement layer, stablecoins, RWAs | ETH’s dominance in stablecoin issuance and tokenized assets isn’t reflected in its historically weak ETH/BTC ratio |
| Solana (SOL) | High-performance Layer 1 and internet capital markets | Solana’s growing payments, RWA and tokenized-equity activity may be overshadowed by its memecoin reputation |
| Binance Coin (BNB) | Exchange-linked Layer 1, systematic supply reduction | BNB is often priced as an exchange token when BNB Chain is already the top chain by daily fees |
| Kite (KITE) | AI-agent identity and payments infrastructure | Early-stage token backed by major VCs, but priced more on hype cycles than on shipped infrastructure |
| Pump.fun (PUMP) | Memecoin launchpad with revenue-linked buybacks | Often dismissed as a pure memecoin token despite a buyback mechanism tied directly to platform revenue |
ETH is the native asset of Ethereum, the leading smart-contract platform and the base settlement layer for the largest share of the crypto economy’s stablecoins and tokenized assets.
ETH is used to pay gas fees, secure the network through staking, and serve as the reserve asset for a large share of DeFi collateral across the ecosystem.
ETH may be undervalued if the market is pricing it primarily on short-term price action rather than on its underlying share of crypto’s real economic activity.
Ethereum still accounts for the largest share of global stablecoin issuance and tokenized real-world assets of any network, and institutional adoption through spot ETFs and corporate treasuries has continued to build through 2026. Yet the ETH/BTC ratio has spent most of 2025 and 2026 in historically weak territory, a gap that on-chain analysts have flagged as one of the more unusual valuation disconnects in the current cycle: ETH’s fundamentals (stablecoin dominance, DeFi collateral, tokenization volume) have kept growing while its price relative to BTC has lagged.
The Glamsterdam upgrade, still in development for a mid-to-late-2026 rollout, would raise Ethereum’s gas limit and introduce proposer-builder separation, both aimed at supporting the next leg of Layer-2 and institutional scaling.
What could weaken the thesis: ETH’s price has repeatedly lagged its own fundamental growth for extended periods, so a low ETH/BTC ratio alone is not a guarantee of near-term outperformance. Macro risk-off conditions tend to hit ETH before they hit BTC.
BNB is the native coin of the BNB Chain ecosystem, used for transaction fees, staking, governance, and services across BNB Smart Chain, opBNB, and BNB Greenfield.
BNB may be undervalued if the market continues to price it mainly as “the Binance exchange token” rather than as the native asset of one of the highest-throughput blockchain ecosystems in crypto.
BNB Chain has repeatedly ranked as the top blockchain by daily transaction fees, ahead of both Ethereum and Solana on several recent measurement periods, supported by tens of billions of dollars in total value locked and daily transaction counts in the tens of millions. BNB’s Auto-Burn mechanism systematically removes tokens from supply every quarter, tied directly to network price and block production, with the program working toward a long-term target of cutting total supply in half from its original 200 million BNB.
The chain’s technical roadmap has also continued to push throughput higher, with block-interval reductions and infrastructure upgrades aimed at handling significantly more transaction volume than the network processes today.
What could weaken the thesis: Quarterly burns are announced well in advance and are often priced in before they happen. BNB also carries concentration and regulatory risk tied to sentiment toward Binance as a company, independent of BNB Chain’s technical performance.
SOL is the native token of Solana, a high-performance Layer-1 blockchain used for DeFi, payments, tokenized assets, NFTs, consumer applications, and on-chain trading.
SOL is used to pay transaction fees, participate in network staking, and secure the blockchain. Demand for SOL can therefore be influenced by network activity, blockspace usage, and the amount of SOL delegated to validators.
SOL may be undervalued if the market continues to associate Solana primarily with memecoins and speculative token launches.
Solana’s ecosystem has expanded into stablecoin settlement, tokenized equities, real-world assets, and enterprise payments, with cumulative tokenized-stock volume and real-world asset value on the network both crossing multi-billion-dollar milestones earlier this year. U.S. spot Solana ETFs have continued to build assets under management since launch, giving the network a more direct institutional demand channel than it has historically had.
The network also raised its mainnet block limit from 60 million to 100 million compute units in late July, allowing blocks to process more complex activity, and SOL futures open interest across exchanges reached a fresh all-time high above $13 billion in late August, a sign of deepening derivatives participation alongside the spot-side growth.
What could weaken the thesis: SOL’s valuation still depends heavily on sustained network activity. Lower trading volumes, declining application usage, or delays in major upgrades could reduce demand for blockspace and SOL.
KITE is the native token of Kite AI, a Layer-1 blockchain built specifically for AI-agent identity, governance, and payments.
KITE may be undervalued if the market is pricing it as a generic early-stage AI token rather than as infrastructure purpose-built for a specific, fast-growing need: letting autonomous AI agents transact and authenticate without a human approving every step.
Kite AI has released a detailed mainnet roadmap organized around agent identity, agent-native settlement, and support for the x402 payments protocol, positioning it as infrastructure for what the project calls the “agentic economy.” The project is backed by PayPal Ventures, General Catalyst, and Coinbase Ventures, three investors with direct exposure to how payments infrastructure gets adopted at scale. Since its exchange debut in late 2025, KITE has already listed across several major venues, giving it more distribution than many tokens at a similar stage.
What could weaken the thesis: KITE is a young token with a large gap between circulating and total supply, meaning future unlocks can create sustained sell pressure regardless of development progress. Its futures liquidity has also been inconsistent across exchanges, with at least one major venue delisting its perpetual contract once already, a sign the market’s confidence in KITE is still being established rather than settled.
PUMP is the native token of Pump.fun, a launchpad and trading platform closely associated with Solana’s memecoin market.
PUMP may be undervalued if the market treats it as just another memecoin-adjacent token rather than pricing in its direct, disclosed link between platform revenue and token buybacks.
Pump.fun allocates a large share of eligible platform revenue directly to open-market PUMP purchases and permanent burns, a mechanism that has already removed a meaningful share of the token’s original supply from circulation. That gives PUMP a more direct revenue-to-token linkage than many governance tokens in DeFi, even though it’s usually discussed purely in terms of meme-coin sentiment. Its futures open interest has also shown it can attract serious capital during active periods, swinging from under $150 million in quiet stretches to well over $1 billion when memecoin trading activity picks up.
What could weaken the thesis: PUMP does not give holders a legal right to platform revenue or distributions, and the buyback mechanism cannot prevent the price from falling if memecoin activity or market liquidity declines. This remains one of the highest-risk tokens in this list, and its “undervalued” case depends entirely on sustained platform usage.

Our picks for September are ETH, SOL, BNB, KITE, and PUMP.
Tokens such as ETH and SOL are often viewed as underpriced relative to their share of real network activity and institutional adoption, though “undervalued” remains a thesis rather than a certainty.
Large-cap infrastructure tokens are unlikely to deliver 1000x returns. Such gains typically occur in micro-cap projects with significantly higher risk.
Historically, only a small number of emerging projects reach 100x returns. Infrastructure tokens may provide strong upside, but exponential returns usually require early-stage exposure and high risk tolerance.
Cryptocurrency investments, including altcoins discussed as potentially undervalued, carry a high risk of loss and are not suitable for everyone. “Undervalued” is a thesis, not a guarantee. Prices can remain disconnected from fundamentals for extended periods, and any token can lose most or all of its value. The information here is illustrative only and is not financial advice.
