Creditcoin

• Creditcoin records lending and repayment history on-chain to build credit identity for the unbanked.

• It targets emerging markets where borrowers have no formal credit file.

• CTC is the network token.

• Mined through proof-of-work in its original design, later transitioning consensus.

• Used for recording credit transactions and network fees.

Pros:

• Credit invisibility is a genuine barrier for billions of people, so the problem is real.

• Partnerships with lenders operating in emerging markets.

• Recording history on-chain creates portable credit identity across lenders.

Cons:

• Credit scoring requires lender adoption at scale, and lenders benefit from keeping data proprietary.

• Emerging market lending carries high default rates regardless of record-keeping.

• Adoption has grown slowly since launch in 2019.

• Exposure to credit infrastructure for underbanked markets.

• The problem is real and large.

• Weigh that lenders have incentives against sharing the data this depends on.

• Portable credit history recorded on-chain, so a borrower's repayment record follows them between lenders rather than staying with one.

• People without formal credit files cannot access affordable credit, however reliably they repay.

• Recording repayment on-chain builds a portable record, provided lenders contribute to and consult it.

• Developed by Gluwa, founded by Tae Oh.

• Operates with lending partners in Africa and Asia.

• CTC was distributed through a token sale in 2019.

• Lenders have commercial incentives against sharing credit data.

• Emerging market lending carries high default rates.

• Adoption has been slow over several years.

• Regulatory treatment of credit data varies sharply by jurisdiction.
